February 2014

Progress slow but certain. Engine now fitted and looking really good but as my very Dutton experienced friend says “1982 no speed bumps no pot holes but now both in abundance best sort the sump out” wise words which will be heeded. Car seat backrest and seat squabs are being recovered by a nice biker guy who specialise  in Harley’s . Looking at various options to cover the projecting shock absorber top fixing projecting through the back panel. NOTE TO  TIM DUTTON Dear Tim, when you modified the S1 into the S2 it was not only thin people who bought Dutton kits and whilst I used to comfortably fit into my S2, which with the suspension modifications meant the cockpit became too narrow for the S1seats, however at that time my backside happily fitted on the squabs which had replaced the luxurious S1 seats but some  32years later it’s a good job I’ve not developed into too much of a fat lad ! The rear body panel and the two heavily modified suspension overriders are now being moulded into one integrated panel by a man who understands fibreglass and hopefully after my countless measuring exercises the panel will fit.  A new made to measure aluminium Lexus cored radiator is being made by the aluminium superstar who is moving workshop and who also made brand new side panels and Holden are supplyIng new switches, starter button, indicator switch and key/light switch, very nice people to deal with and give money to. Next job, dial cut outs in the aluminium dashboard, wheels off and gone for acid cleaning powder coating silver and polishing followed by new tyres 32 year old ones currently on the car look good but a bit like MFI Furniture looked great until you got it home. Have now decided on the body and dashboard colour ROSSO CORSA the original Italian team  colour before Ferrari and whilst I know BRG should be my first choice I always wanted a little red sports car with black interior and a previous MX5 in BRG which was owned by my long suffering wife ,as far as I am concerned, satisfies that emotional dicotomy.
